PR GENERATION

We believe public relations should deliver profits as well as profile. That's why for us measurement is crucial. We ask what we are adding to the client's bottom line and what more we can do to accelerate their success. So our measurement isn't simply about column inches. While we will provide a detailed and robust evaluation of the media coverage in terms of the amount of coverage, audience reach and messaging, we also include a mix of other indicators to assess the PR campaign. The mix is tailored for each program but will include:

- Sales leads
- Enquiries
- Site traffic (unique visitors, downloads, length of visit)
- Feedback from critical audience representatives
– such as key influencers, customers and prospectsInternal audience feedback to gauge how PR is supporting them in their jobs.

As part of our service, to give our campaign a benchmark, we conduct a Halo study among internal and/or external audiences. This tells us the position the campaign is starting from. This means we are adding huge value before the PR campaign has even begun, by giving clients invaluable insights, which they can apply right across their business.

HOW WE WORK

We call it handcrafted PR. It's the idea that every company we work with is as innovative and diverse in their communications needs as they are in their products and services. We've done nothing but work with growth technology companies for more than a decade. You'd think that as a result, we'd have developed a programmatic "GIST SOLUTION'S way" of doing things. But the longer we've been at this, the more we realize that it's not about us, it's about our clients. We work with companies to help them create their stories, their strategies, their entire communications programs. That's handcrafted PR and that's what defines our approach. Here's how it works:
- We get to know a company by immersing ourselves in its business, challenges, team, technology, customers, market and competitors.
- We discuss, brainstorm, whiteboard and analyze everything we learn and distill it into a story that makes people stand up and take notice.
- We translate the story into a highly customized strategy that, like the finest handcrafted furniture, is built with the best material, utmost attention to detail, unique, smart design, and clear understanding of purpose.
- We execute relentlessly, make good stuff happen, write strongly, pitch the media persistently, think constantly about our clients, make a real impact everyday, work hard to have our clients keep up with us, and deliver the stories and results that make our clients businesses move faster.

Markets evolve, influences shift, the media changes, and so do the mechanisms for reaching all the various cross sections of ideas and influence. These constantly moving targets have an impact on a company's strategy and inform the stories at its heart. But they don't define it.From day one, GIST SOLUTIONS has embraced change as an inevitable and welcome component of growth. And in the midst of change, the one constant we've found is that it's the good stories that matter. Despite the proliferation of media types, new voices and devices, and an increasing pool of niche influencers, growing companies need nuanced, thought-provoking narratives to get people to listen and make conversations happen. We believe that the very best stories typically involve some combination of:
- Innovation (the invention, the ideas, the science, the code, the breakthroughs)- People (disruptors, brilliant minds, technical gurus, true believers, visionaries)
- Value (makes life easier, more productive for people, a better way)
- Impact (changes how people think about an industry, idea or activity)
- Emotional Appeal (gets people excited because it solves an important issue or just has that certain something special)
Once the story is succinct, companies need a strong, well-thought-out strategy and experienced communications team to make sure it gets heard and talked about in the right places, with the right volume, voice, impact and intent. That's what GIST SOLUTIONS does best.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

"Volunteer Day at STL Connect"

To paraphrase Muhammad Ali, “What you’re thinking is where you’re going.”To quote Muhammad Ali directly, “It’s just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.”

Last week, a team of Gist Solutions volunteers was thinking - not about grass growing, birds flying, waves pounding or beating people up - but about helping St. Louis’ massive homeless population. They put their thoughts into action helping to register many of the estimated 1,500 volunteers who showed up to support Better Family Life, a community program devoted to providing support to the city’s homeless. Even with such a massive outpouring of support, St. Louis' homeless population - an estimated 6 to 10 THOUSAND people - is still in need of help. Another organization dedicated to helping St. Louis homeless is the Coalition for the Homeless.Volunteers showed up to help fix wheelchairs, provide health services and legal advice, serve hot meals, give hair cuts and help homeless reach out to family and friends via phone and mail among other services.PHC is replicated in 170 other cities across the nation. The next event in St. Louis is February 4, 2009.Gist Solution’s team was instrumental in getting volunteers registered, provide information and get the day off to a smooth start. Volunteer Central team leader Jennifer Graham commented that our group was one of the best she’d ever had and Gist Solution had the pleasure of meeting STL Mayor Slay who made a surprise appearance to thank the volunteers for their time and efforts.

Letter from the CEO

Welcome to this edition of “What’s The Gist.” I hope you will take a few minutes to explore your company and get to know more about some of the changes that are being made. I also invite you take the time to meet some of your colleagues, partners and affiliates.

This past year has been a busy and challenging one for us at Gist Solutions. Most notably, on November 6, 2008, we had to make a reduction in our workforce that affected approximately 90 percent, of our Little Rock employees. We’ve chosen to undertake this move for three very important reasons:

Long-Term Growth. We believe we have an obligation to recognize and respond in meaningful, practical ways to the business challenges facing all of us and the world we live in. The belief is that we have tremendous long-term growth opportunities. This move will enable the company to consolidate its manufacturing operations and will save the company more than 15 percent of its operating budget.

Staying Competitive. We are committed to continue to develop the services that offer our clients exceptional value through creative, thoughtful and technically rigorous solutions to their business challenges and concerns.

Leading the Way.As leaders and influencers of our clients and our industry we believe in “leading by example”. As a company we are committed to sustainable development, both in the services we provide to our clients and the way in which we provide them. As we continue to build our reputation for excellence and innovation, we know that the key to our success is our people. Their commitment to providing our clients with exceptional service and solutions is what enables us to grow and make progress. Through our focus on employee programs we believe we must provide you with an exceptional working environment that enables you to grow and develop your career while also maintaining your work/life balance.
I’d like to thank you for taking the time you took the reading your employee newsletter and I hope that you will find the information here helpful. If you have any questions that I can assist you with please feel free to contact me at any time.

Sincerely
Rocky Fox
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

"Interview with Jackie Reed, President of Gist Solutions"
The Situation Room

Q: Ms. Reed is nice to see you again. How are you doing?

Ms. Reed: Welcome. Come on in the Situation Room. I'm doing great. Thank you. It’s nice to see you again as well. And I thank you for the opportunity to talk to you about some of the decisions that I have made here at Gist Solutions.

Q: Actually, I want to tell the employees of Gist Solutions that this is the place where big decisions are made. This is the room. But here it comes to my mind that how hard it is on you, Ms. Reed, to take like -- a big decision like workforce reduction, specifically the Little Rock office, for example -- is it difficult to make a decision such as this one.

Ms. Reed: It’s always difficult to make such a decision. It’s hard on the economy, the local community and most importantly, the employees that will be losing their jobs.

Q: After to speaking with several employees, they actually want to know what was the thought and decision process behind such a move.

Ms. Reed: We approached the decision thoughtfully to ensure that we are able to continue investing in our expanding communications platform and increased marketing. Although difficult and understanding that we are in slow economy, we believe these actions will ultimately strengthen the company and position us well for the when the economy recovers.

Q: During these difficult and emotional times for Gist Solutions, is there anything that would make you and upper management reconsider or rethink the decision that has been made?

Ms. Reed: This is extremely difficult for everyone involved. But our expectation that U.S. market conditions will remain challenging through 2009, make it necessary for us to better align our planned spending with those realities.
